The Temporomandibular joint is formed between the temporal and mandible bones. There can be problems such as jaw pain, stiffness, clicking, crepitus, difficulty chewing and difficulty opening or closing the jaw. There are many causes for this, from inside the TMJ, including synovitis, capsulitis, disc displacement, tendinitis, arthritis. The problem could be caused by issues with the neck, shoulders and upper back or could be a referral of pain from those structures.
An Osteopath can help you get to the root of the problem in establishing where and why the complaint has occured. They can give treatment, exercises and other advice to reduce the symptoms and prevent them returning.
